Over 70,000 people reside in Galesburg's Micropolitan Statistical Area (mSA) and their utility needs are well-served by the area's providers. The City of Galesburg and its service providers are continuously upgrading the area's utility and transportation infrastructure.

Electricity and Natural Gas
The Galesburg area receives its electricity and natural gas from AmerenIP. Based in Decatur, Illinois, AmerenIP provides the gas and electric needs for 650,000 customers. The company covers a 15,000 square mile territory in the State of Illinois, and has earned a reputation for progressive and consistent service from its first-rate team of customer service specialists. Water
The City of Galesburg obtains its groundwater from an aquifer near Oquawka, Illinois, which is located along the Mississippi River. Utilizing a collector well and three gravel-pack wells, the water is pumped approximately 32 miles to Galesburg through a 36-inch and 42-inch transmission line. There are nine million gallons of storage capacity at the Galesburg Water Plant and 1.75 million gallons of overhead storage in three towers throughout the City. The average daily water pumpage is six million gallons with a peak demand of 9.5 million gallons. Waste Water
The Galesburg Sanitary District provides waste water treatment for the businesses and residents of Galesburg. Several infrastructure upgrades have been completed in recent years, including a force main upgrade to provide additional waste water capacity to Logistics Park - Galesburg and a tertiary filter upgrade to increase capacity at Galesburg's treatment facility. Area businesses and residents enjoy high-speed internet service and great wireless service in addition to digital cable and satellite television options. Gallatin River Communications provides telephone, internet and DISH network service and operates a network with over 100 miles of fiber optic lines in the Galesburg area.
